John B. Guarino Memorial Scholarship

The John B. Guarino Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of NECC Professor of History Emeritus John Guarino. A long-time resident of Haverhill, Professor Guarino joined the Northern Essex faculty in 1964, three years after the college was founded. He taught at the college for 32 years until 1996. Guarino was an energetic campus leader, a champion for faculty rights and academic freedom, and served as president of the faculty union, a member of the college’s budget committee, and a leader on the academic and all college councils. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is enrolled in an Associate’s Degree Program. The student must also have a 3.0 GPA or higher, at least 18 NECC credits earned and at least 6 credits registered for the upcoming fall semester.
